The Australian Women’s Team arrived in England in 1976 to help celebrate 50 years since the formation of the Women’s Cricket Association. It was the first women’s series to be sponsored, by St. Ivel foods. A young Australian side almost secured victory in the final Test at the Oval, but Rachael Heyhoe-Flint batted all through the final day to save the match and the series, losing her wicket to the final ball of the match for 179.
