Portrait of Fuller Pilch (1804-1870) John Corbet Anderson (1827-1907) Watercolour drawing for lithograph The great batter Fuller Pilch depicted towards the end of his career in front of an idealised landscape. Pilch was acclaimed as England’s finest batter from the late 1820s onwards. Born in Norfolk, he moved to Kent to pursue his cricket career and was renowned for the brilliance of his forward play. Produced between 1850 and 1860, the cricket lithographs of John Corbet Anderson were hugely popular in the years before photography became widespread. Featuring many of the greatest players from a period of great enthusiasm for cricket, they remain among the most desirable and collectible cricket prints. MCC Collections: Donated by Mr H.
