Description

Brown leather cricket ball. Ball played with and presented to S.E. Butler for bowling 10 wickets, for 65 runs in the first innings for Oxford v Cambridge, June 26th 1871, at Lord's. (The last five wickets were taken in 3 overs and 1 ball. Plaque not attached. Engraved silver plaque reads: S.E. Butler/ This ball was played with in the/ Oxford v Cambridge match of 1871/ & presented to S.E. Butler for bowling/ 10 wickets in the 1st innings. (plaque separate, which may have been attached to the frame of the score card). No legible maker's mark.
