Description

Ivory gavel and wooden block. Gavel split around the neck though the force of the head hitting the block. Block inscribed with silver plate 'presented to the Association of Cricket Umpires by their President, G.O. Allen in his year as president of MCC (1963-64)'

Used gavel and block ‘presented to the Association of Cricket Umpires by their President, G.O. Allen in his year as president of MCC TN.2009.95 “Gubby” Allen was a fast bowler who played for Middlesex and England, captaining his country 11 times including the 1936/37 tour to Australia. After retiring as a player he chaired the England selection panel from 1955 to 1961, served as President of MCC in 1963-64 and acted as the Club’s Treasurer for 12 years. The Allen Stand at Lord’s is named after him.
