Improved manufacture of bats included blade spliced to accept a separate cane handle crafted with thin rubber “insulators” as shock absorbers. This led to greater comfort and durability; bats would be repaired many times before being discarded. This bat was used by Hobbs in his last Test match v. Australia at the Oval in 1930 and also to score his first century in India at Benares.
