This painting shows a cricket match in progress by the river at Moulsey Hurst in Surrey, one of the first cricket grounds in the country.
The artist of the painting is unknown and as the picture formed part of the Colman bequest its authenticity has been challenged. It may be that the well-documented reputation and recognisable landscape of Moulsey Hurst proved useful to a Paddington forger creating works at a much later date.
