Description

Proposed design for the Pataudi Trophy for the M.C.C. Sterling silver parcel gilt, jasper cricket ball, two malachite stones.

Display caption

Mansur Ali Khan, the Nawab of Pataudi Junior, followed his father’s footsteps to Oxford University and thence into county cricket. Pataudi had played Test cricket for both England and India and the family, although Muslim, had stayed on in India following partition. Pataudi Junior, known as “Tiger”, went on to captain Oxford, Sussex and India. MCC commissioned this trophy for a Test series between England and India in honor of his family’s contribution to cricket in both countries.
