Description

Plaque commemorating the Real Tennis Championships of the World, played between G. Lambert and T. Pettitt. 1885. Comprised of two crossed racquets. Each racquet loop glazed to frame photographs of the contestants; T. Pettitt's racquet stamped: Brouaye. Carved scroll painted white over intersection, inscribed in red and black: These racquets were used by/ G. Lambert, England, and T. Pettitt, U.S.A./ in the Championship of the World/played at Hampton Court Place/in May, 1885. On the blocks of the racquets are inscribed respectively: G. Lambert/England, and T. Pettitt,/U.S.A.
