Description

Sanguine or sepia engraving of a woman cricketer within a cartouche, 'The Ladies Cricket Club 1785'. She wears a large hat tipped forward on her head, a dress with fitted bodice, full bow, full sleeves, and a shin length skirt. She wears one black glove, black shoes with a small heel and holds a cloth in her left hand. Her right leg is crossed, and she holds a long one-piece curved cricket bat in her right hand. There are trees, hills a fence and a tent in the background. She stands next to a two stump wicket with a ball at her feet.
