Description
Long length of chain used for measuring cricket wickets. Consists of short lengths of thin, straight metal bars joined by three chain links. Curved triangular handle at each end. Swivel link in centre of chain. Flat, palm shaped makers or tallies along length, with 1, 2, 3 and 4 ‘fingers’, from each end towards middle.
Also used for measuring farm land and known as a Gunter's or Surveyor's Chain.
Chains are the measuring instrument used in surveying formed by the 100 links of 4mm galvanized mild steel wire. These links are joined by 3 circular or oval wire rings. These rings provide the flexibility to the chains.
