Description

Right leg pad of “J.B. Hobbs” branded, batting pads. Full leg, leather pads with vegetable fibre padding and cloth lining. Three, white leather straps and buckles. Maker’s mark label and stamp on lining. 'R.E.S.W.' written inside.

Description Robert Wyatt (Warwickshire & England) Cricket Collection consisting of his Signed ‘Gunn & Moore’ 1935 Cricket Bat used by R.E.S. Wyatt against South Africa XI at Nottingham June 1935 in which Wyatt scored 149 runs and against Australia in 1934, ‘The Autograph Short Handle’ with signatures to the back of the blade featuring Wyatt, Sutcliffe, Ames, Wade Williams, 22 signatories in total, some damage to the blade, stamped either side of the splice, with a poor original grip, the collection also includes ‘The J.B. Hobbs batting leg guards’ cricket pads, finger guards, boots and whites such as his long sleeve shirt, long sleeve pullover and trousers, condition varies with tears and rips throughout Note: Considered a consistent and well determined batsman with a career spanning 35 seasons, he hit over 1,000 runs in a season 17 times, going on to 2,000 fives times, with his best year in 1929 with 2,630 runs, av 53.66. Wyatt toured South Africa, Australia, India West Indies and Argentina, a broken arm- bone limited his activities and on returning almost equalled his best home effort by scoring 2,625 runs, av 53.57, including 232 against Derbyshire.
