Engraved on face 'From the Warwickshire Professionals, to their Captain F.R. Foster in commemoration of his splendid achievement v Yorkshire on June 8,9,10 1911. Taking nine wickets and scoring 105 runs'.

Frank Rowbotham Foster. Warwickshire & England 1908-1914. Excellent silver cigarette case presented to Warwickshire Captain, Frank Foster by the Warwickshire Professionals following his splendid performance v Yorkshire in 1911. The silver cigarette case has an engraved inscription face which reads:- 'From the Warwickshire Professionals, to their Captain F.R. Foster in commemoration of his splendid achievement v Yorkshire on June 8,9,10 1911. Taking nine wickets and scoring 105 runs'. The silver case was made by J. Gloster Ltd of Birmingham, is hallmarked Birmingham 1910, weighs 160 grams and measures approx 3.5" by 3". Some scratching to surface otherwise in good/very good condition. Previously sold by Christie's Auctioneers in October 1989 as lot 367. A nice gesture from the professionals to their amateur Captain.

In the match Foster scored 105 out of Warwickshire's first innings total of 317, his first century in first class matches. He then bowled out Yorkshire for 347 collecting nine wickets for 118 runs from 29.3 overs. He took another three wickets in Yorkshire's second innings. Foster captained Warwickshire from 1911 to 1914. Foster played 127 matches for Warwickshire between 1908-1914. He badly injured his foot in a motor cycle accident in the First World War, which ended his cricket career.
