Navy blue cloth Test cap with raised embroidered and wire emblem of the England three lions and crown to front. Cream silk lining, maker’s name on label in crown. Small, pre-First World War peak. Hand written name label attached to rear inner ‘A Fielder Kent’. From the Sankey family collection and previously sold by Knights as lot 574 in October 1995. Fast bowler, Kent & England 1900-1914

Arthur Fielder. Kent & England 1900-1914. England navy blue cloth Test cap with raised embroidered and wire emblem of the three lions and crown to front by H. Ludlam & Co of Albermarle Street, London from the Sankey family collection and previously sold by Knights as lot 575 in October 1995. The cap, with small peak typical of a pre first world war cap has minor wear to lining otherwise in good/very good condition. An early cap from a truly great fast bowler of Kent and England. Estimate: £700/1000 Hammer price: £850 Arthur Fielder, a fast bowler and very photogenic with his stance and moustache, took almost 13,000 first class wickets for Kent at an average of 21.02, he played in six Tests for England between 1903 and 1908 with best bowling figures of 6-82 in Sydney during the first Test of the 1907/08 tour.
