Silver, machine tooled, cigarette case, with gold inlay. Yellow elastic interior strap. Engraved, 'County Cricket Championship 1929. Won by Nottinghamshire. W. Carr (Captain), Gunn G., Payton W., Whysall W.W., Walker W., Barratt F., Staples S.J., Lilley B., Larwood H., Staples A., Voce W., Presented by the Committee to S.J. Staples. October 25th 1929'. Hallmarks on both interior sides.

Excellent silver cigarette case, with gold inlay, presented to Staples by the Committee of Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club following their County Championship success in 1929. The cigarette box with machine tooled decoration to outer engraved to inside 'County Cricket Championship 1929. Won by Nottinghamshire. W. Carr (Captain), Gunn G., Payton W., Whysall W.W., Walker W., Barratt F., Staples S.J., Lilley B., Larwood H., Staples A., Voce W., Presented by the Committee to S.J. Staples. October 25th 1929'. Hallmarked Walker & Hall of Sheffield 1929, further hallmarks to inside of case. The case measures approximately 4.5"x 3.25". Good/very good condition Estimate: £400/600 Hammer price: £500 Nottinghamshire played twenty eight matches, winning fourteen, losing two and drawing twelve in winning the County Championship. Sam Staples took 101 wickets at 24.15 in 1929. He played 368 matches for Nottinghamshire taking 1331 wickets at an average of 22.85 and scored almost 6,500 first class runs. He played three Test matches for England on the M.C.C. tour of South Africa in 1927/28.
