Two Indian states, where cricket was very popular during the pre-partition days, were the UP and Maharashtra. The two captains are seen sitting in the middle, Professor Deodhar, Maharashtra Team Captain, is on the left of Palia, the UP Team Captian. Photographed in 1936. Professor Deodhar played first class cricket until late into his fifties , a unique record in itself. Masud Salahuddin is sitting third from the left. Masud Salahuddin and Palia both played for the All Indian Cricket Team. Masud Salahuddin continued to serve the game even after the partition as an official of the Pakistan cricket board.
