Description

Wooden stump with pointed base and notch in head. Split vertically with two brass hinges. Inscribed with match details and players' autographs. Used during 2nd Test in South Africa 1948 - 1949. Washbrook and Hutton made 539 for first wicket

MCC tour of South Africa, 1948/49. Original cricket stump used in the 2nd test Where Len Hutton and Cyril Washbrook made a record stand of 359 for the first wicket. The split and hinges stump is inscribed ‘Stump used in 2nd Test Match. Johannesburg. December 27.28.29.30. Washbrook & Hutton made Worlds record partnership 359 1st wicket’ The stump has been signed by fifteen members of the MCC and thirteen members of the South African teams. Signatures include Hutton, Washbrook, Mann, Gladwin, Young, Evans, Compton, Jenkins, Wright, Nourse, E. Rowan, Mitchell, McCarty, Viljeon, A. Rowan, Wade etc. Minor staining to head and base of stump otherwise good condition. £150/250
