Description

Head and shoulders, large-scale portrait of Inzamam-ul-Haq. Wearing a green training jacket and yellow and green Pakistan Cricket Team shirt.

Display caption

Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq is magnified by artist Brendon Kelly who explores every detail of his facial structure through carefully organised splashes of colour. This pastel pallet is, according to Kelly, ‘reminiscent of the exotic colours associated with Pakistan’. With his many worldwide commitments ‘Inzy’ was ‘hard to pin down’ and was thus painted primarily from photographs in the artist’s London-based studio. Indeed, the portrait seems rather fleeting: The angle of the sitter suggests he is about to turn away and the blurred line around the form creates a sense of flux.
