Description

Artist Nicholas Wanostrocht Felix (1804-1876). One of the pictures from 'Felix' Commonplace book. Painting has a detached signature, inscription and date 1864. He was an amateur cricketer who played for Kent (1834-52) and Surrey (1846-52. A sparkling middle order left-hand batsman, he also used his talents to invent a bowling machine and tubular india rubber batting gloves. More importantly for posterity, in later life he portrayed many of his fellow cricketers in watercolour, oil and printed mediums, not overlooking himself.
