Description

Hampshire County Cricket Club Centenary Appeal, Pottery half-pint tankard, 1963, with engraving of portrait of Lewis Cage, by Francis Cotes, 1768. Staffordshire pottery, Sandland Ware, white underglaze, rim and handle embellished gilt. Decoration: transfer: engraving in black, coloured green and yellow, of the boy Cage in a field standing at a two stump wicket, his hand resting on a curved bat, a ball between the stumps. On the back are four lines from Cricket, an Heroic Poem, by James Love, 1744. Stamped on base: Sandland Ware/Staffordshire/England; impressed shape number: 1206.
