Description

'Reds' team uniform. Full length, cream skirt with side pleats. Three thick bands of red stripes around the hem.

Display caption

The players were drawn from the lower middle classes and assurances were given that they are `enterprising and decent’ young women. They were coached by professional county players and when crowds `came to scoff, [they] remained to praise’. The uniforms by Lillywhite, Frowd and Co. were described in one report as `designed with all possible regard to freedom of movement, and ….by no means unbecoming’.
