Description

'Reds' team uniform. Cream, jacket style, blouse with nine (9) buttons down the front. Half length, leg of mutton sleeves. Extended square, sailor style collar. Pale red stripe pattern around collar and breast pocket.

The players were drawn from the lower middle classes and assurances were given that they are `enterprising and decent’ young women. They were coached by professional county players and when crowds `came to scoff, [they] remained to praise’. The uniforms by Lillywhite, Frowd and Co. were described in one report as `designed with all possible regard to freedom of movement, and ….by no means unbecoming’.
