Description

Warsop-Hendren autograph bat with maker’s stamps. Used by Denis Compton, during his annus mirabilis, 1947, to score 3816 runs. Black rubber handle grip. Inscription and signature on front of blade. Signature on reverse.

Made by Warsop & Hendron Donated by Denis Compton This bat was used by Compton during his annus mirabilis, 1947. The inscription reads `With this bat I scored 3816 runs inc. 18 centuries in 1947 sincerely yours, Denis Compton’. Along with fellow Middlesex and England batsman Bill Edrich, Compton lit up what John Arlott called “a summer of joys which, it had sometimes seemed during the war years, could never return.”
