Description

Spliced cane handle, twined. Head of handle bound with canvas tape. Straight blade, indistinct swell. Worn toe with nails and losses to inside edge. Maker's mark and remnants of letter to face. Inscription on reverse.

Bat of W.G. Grace F. Dark and Sons, 19th century This but was inscribed by Grace himself who wrote “I Played against the Australians with this bat”. The occasion on which he did so is not known. The inscribed figures “243/4” refer to the weight of the bat by imperial measure. M.44.4 MCC Collection Donated by J. Watt, 1944
