Description

Light brown leather ball with stamped lettering presented to F C Cobden to commemorate taking three wickets with three balls. Ball with which F.C. Cobden performed the 'hat trick' (3 wickets for 3 balls) for Cambridge vs Oxford, June 28th 1870, at Lord's. Inscription on ball reads: F.C. Cobden, Esq./ S.E. Butler c Bourne b Cobden O./ T.H. Belcher --- b Cobden O./ W.A. Stewart --- b Cobden O./ 3 wickets in 3 balls/ Lord's, June 28, 1870. No legible maker's mark except: 5 1/2 oz
