Half length, three quarter turned, seated portrait of Bradman during his time as a cricket administrator, wearing thick square rimmed glasses, a dark blue suit, white shirt and grey tie.
This portrait of Bradman wearing square rimmed glasses was painted during his time as a cricket administrator by Australian realist Robert Hannaford. Hannaford is one of Australia’s most prolific portraitists known for capturing the likeness of his sitters through minute detail around the sitter’s eyes. He is quoted as saying ‘I enjoy painting portraits. I enjoy looking into people’s eyes when I’m painting them’.
Sir Donald Bradman is the batsman with the highest batting average in Test cricket (99.94) and during his career he was the greatest accumulator of runs and records. He first played at Lord’s in 1930 and maintained that his score of 254 in the Lord’s Test that year was his finest ever innings.
