Abstract
Tibby Cotter was one of the fiercest of the early Australian fast bowlers and pioneered the use of intimidatory short-pitched bowling. He played 21 times for his country during the Golden Age, touring the UK in 1905 and 1909. An uncomplicated man - an undisciplined larrikin - he had his share of brushes with officialdom and the law. He served in Gallipoli and Beersheba as a stretcher-bearer and was the only Australian Test cricketer killed in the First World War.
