Scope and Content
Cassette Recording, 'Outlook from Lord's' produced by the BBC World Service. The recording took place on the top of the Pavilion at Lord's Cricket Ground during the England vs. Pakistan Test match on 18 June 1992, hosted by John Tidmarsh. Includes interviews with B A Johnston, Intikhab Alam, Allan Lamb, A J Stewart, G A Gooch and C H Lloyd, who talk about playing at Lord's, how modern cricket compared to the past, cricket's efforts to remove racial barriers, and cricket in other countries that were not Test-playing nations. The recording also contains interviews, conducted by Tidmarsh, with MCC Secretary Lieutenant Colonel J R Stephenson who talks about the Long Room portraits, Graham Gooch's bat that he used to score 333 with for England against India at Lord's in 1990, the Club rules regarding women members, and the Queen's visits to Lord's, and with MCC Curator Stephen Green, who talks about objects in the Museum including the Chinese punch bowl depicting Marylebone Fields, the sparrow hit by a cricket ball, and the Imaginary Cricket Match painting, and Green also talks about Thomas Lord, and Johnston talks about his mistakes while commentating on BBC Radio. The recording ends with Johnston receiving a cake and birthday card from Tidmarsh and the 'Outlook' team.
