Scope and Content
Correspondence compiled by Middlesex County Cricket Club sent by individuals and organisations whose names began with 'L', 1939. Subjects include requests for passes, subscription and membership enquiries, request by Leinster Cricket Union for them to play a match against Middlesex in 1939 which was declined by the Middlesex Committee, list of Middlesex fixtures in 1939, requests for players' autographs, scores from the Middlesex vs. Kent match in 1904 in response to an enquiry by a member, letter to Captain J E M Skinner of Leicestershire County Cricket Club granting him permission to play for Leicestershire under Special Registration Rule No. 10, letter to Captain J F Richardson, Secretary of Lincolnshire County Cricket Club, confirming that N S Hotchkin would play for Middlesex under Special Registration Rule No. 10, letter from London Passenger Transport Board asking to know the colours of Middlesex and MCC as they wished to use the colours as part of their cricket fixture posters, letter from the League of Coloured Peoples inviting the Secretary of Middlesex to a farewell dance to the West Indian team in September 1939, memorandum from Surrey County Cricket Club informing that The Oval had been taken over by the authorities due to the Second World War,. The file also contains correspondence answered by the Secretary of MCC, Colonel Rowan Rait Kerr including a list of proposed Test match dates for 1940, later cancelled due to the Second World War.
