Biography on reverse reads: "A NZ bowling great, 'Springers' became a legend because of his batting. He was a one-day star who devastated bowling attacks with volleys of powerful, free-wheeling hits that often sent the ball hurtling out of the ground. In a one-dayer against Australia in 1983 he hit 52 off 19 balls. Launching whippy in-swingers that were hard to hit away, he was an unorthodox bowler of great stamina and accuracy. A 10 wicket haul in 1983 gave NZ its first test win in England.
