52 minutes
the fastest century

An energetic fieldsman and turbocharged fast bowler of tremendous stamina, it was Lance's batting that made him a star. Powerfully built, he was one of NZ cricket's biggest hitters. He was a natural for one-dayers, cutting loose with tremendous whacks that sent balls hurtling into the stratosphere. In 1980 his only first class century made the record books. Playing for Otago against Wellington at the Hutt Recreation Ground, he scored 100 off 45 balls in 52 minutes. His 110-run total included 9 sixes and 11 fours."
