Scope and Content
Trading card depicting a coloured illustrated head and shoulders portrait of Vanburn Holder. He is wearing a white shirt and West Indies maroon blazer with maroon stripe in the centre of two white stripes trim. Series No.11.

Biography on reverse reads: "V. A Holder. Worcestershire signed Barbadian Vanburn Alonzo Holder as a pace bowler in 1968. Tall and spare, he could produce a good turn of speed, as well as hit a ball long distances with a basically correct method, but the mild mannered Holder perhaps lacked the aggression to place him with the great West Indian fast bowlers. Holder made his Test debut in England in 1969, and altogether made 40 appearances, but after a resurgance during the Packer era a poor Indian tour in 1978/79 put him on the sidelines. His reliable pace, delivered with a high action, and swinging either way, brought 109 Test wickets, (av.33.28). His best analysis was 6-28 against Australia at Port-of-Spain, in 1977/78 when his side won a low key series, but a better performance was when he destroyed the Indian middle order at Bombay in 1974/75 with 6-39 in 20.1 overs to clinch the rubber. Van Holder gave Worcestershire 13 years yeoman service; a career record of 950 wickets, (av.24.52) confirms his quality and dedication while 3,593 runs, (av.12.97) in no way flatters latent batting ability. Since retirement Holder has continued serving cricket with dignity as a county umpire."
