Scope and Content
Trading card depicting a coloured illustrated head and shoulders portrait of C Aubrey Smith. He is wearing a white shirt, blazer with yellow stripes and Sussex cap with martlets crest on the front. Series No.20.

Biography on reverse reads: "Sir C. Aubrey Smith. Sir Charles Aubrey Smith was the son of a doctor and educated at Charterhouse. He gained four Blues at Cambridge from 1882 until 1896. He was an aggressive front foot batsman and a medium paced bowler with a curved run which earned him the soubriquet "Round the Corner Smith". He led the Major Warton's team to South Africa in 1888-89 and captained England in his only match. This was later elevated to Test status and he remains the only man to captain his country in his only Test. He made his debut on the London Stage in 1896 and went on to Hollywood in the 1920's, specialising in film roles as the typical 'English Gentleman', and came to Lord's as often as he could to watch Tests. He was knighted in 1944 for his contribution to Anglo-American relations and died in Beverly Hills in 1948 aged 85."
