Scope and Content
Cigarette card depicting an illustrated head and shoulders portrait of Norman Yardley. He is wearing a white shirt, pale blue blazer and pale blue cravat. Yorkshire white crest in bottom-right corner. Series No.34.

Biography on reverse reads: "N. W. D. Yardley. (Cambridge and Yorkshire). An excellent batsman, Yardley got his Blue as a Freshman in 1935 and was elected captain for the 1938 season. He headed his University's batting averages in 1936 and when available he became a regular member of the Yorkshire eleven. In 1937 his full season yielded 1,472 runs, average 33.45, and he played at Lord's for Gentlemen v. Players. Admirable in style, Yardley shows to special advantage in cutting and driving. A slow right-arm spin bowler and a brilliant field, he was prominent when playing for Lord Tennyson's team in India, 1937-38. Born March 19th, 1915."
