Scope and Content
Cigarette card depicting a coloured illustrated portrait of Greville Stevens at the end of playing a shot. He is wearing cricket whites, pads, batting gloves, v-neck cableknit sweater with blue stripe trim and blue cap. Series No.41.

Biography on reverse reads: "Mr. G. T. S. Stevens (Middlesex). After enjoying the unique distinction of appearing in the Gentlemen's eleven at Lord's when still at school Stevens played four times for Oxford against Cambridge, captaining his University in 1922. "Googly" bowling brought him first honours, but opening that batting against the Players at Lord's in 1923, he scored 122. He helped England recover "the ashes" from Australia in 1926 at the Oval, and took part in the recent tour in South Africa. An exponent of modern methods, he hits surprisingly hard with apparently little effort, but defence and clever placing give chief character to his batting while he is a real spin bowler."
