Correspondence, newspaper cuttings, working agendas and telegrams relating to the proposed South African tour of England in 1970. Subjects include recommendations by Jim Callaghan [Home Secretary] on behalf of the government to cancel the tour, copy of statement broadcast by Major Pieter van der Byl criticising the decision to cancel the tour, pamphlet by the MCC Cricket Council arguing why the 1970 South African tour should go ahead, newspaper cartoons mocking the proposal to continue the tour, decision not to play overseas cricketers in matches against South Africa by their counties including Garfield Sobers, naming of the South African team to tour the British Isles, statement issued by S C Griffith, Secretary of the Cricket Council on 19 May 1970, confirming that the tour will go ahead, press statement issued on behalf of the Cricket Council announcing that the tour would be cancelled on 22 May 1970.
